Thanks for the Memories - Red Zone Gardens

Gardens gone but not forgotten

Clothesline, rotating aimlessly on a blank section - all that's left

Weeds reclaiming a driveway

Wisteria and weeds consuming the front gate

An abandoned front lawn - one of thousands

Signing off - one family's farewell to their riverside house

Hi Adrienne

What sad photos. They communicate an eerie sense of emptiness while also documenting the healing power of nature as it covers and repairs all wounds. I can't imagine how difficult all of this must still be for the city's residents. I haven't been back to Christchurch since before the earthquakes. I'm pleased my family spent almost two weeks there as tourists (from Dunedin) not long ago. We visited the Time Ball building and others, now gone. Thanks for publishing these photos.

Thanks for the lovely comments Mark. Yes, it's a wake-up call to visiit many of the Red Zone residential areas. They get far less publicity than the central city yet it's here where the earthquakes' impacts are most keenly felt on a daily basis. I visit the areas regularly.... I'm intrigued by how rapidly Nature reclaims the land.
