The George, Christchurch
Observations of Life in New Zealand (and sometimes beyond) through art, architecture, photography, travel, tourism, design, food, the quirky, the bizarre, the comedic - a few of the things I am passionate about. This is my world - a world of contemplations, observations and small adventures.

Lillies in the Lobby
There's nothing more intoxicating for me than the look and smell of white lillies. I adore them! No surprise then, that I took these photographs in the lobby of The George Christchurch - where I could happily have spent the day, lounging back on white leather sofas, drinking in heavenly lily perfume. www.thegeorge.com

Art Bites
Images Stephen Goodenough courtesy The George
Pescatore’s executive chef Andrew Brown and his team appear to me to be having far too much fun – creating edible art! Could there BE a better job? It’s all about creating food that engages all the senses and they do that with a to-die-for Evolution menu – 10 degustation courses that ripple across your taste buds and leave you begging for more. And yes, even after six courses it IS still possible to still want more…. they are small courses after all – little taste teasers – and, as the cliché says, you only live once! That said, you can pick and choose from the a la carte menu instead; but why ruin a perfectly good night by having to make choices? www.thegeorge.com

Dining in Style
The multi-award-winning Pescatore at The George Christchurch has a glamorous new face. Christchurch architect, Richard Dalman of Dalman Architecture has brushed the upstairs space with a quiet elegance. He’s created a restrained opulence in a new restaurant ante-room that’s the perfect counterpoint to the dark minimalism of the restaurant itself.

It’s all white-on-white – a delicious marrying of diaphanous fabrics, crystal chandeliers, chrome poles, padded doors and almost-lickable marble. I love it. Not everyone is a fan of white-on-white-on-white but I am. My ideal house – in my ideal world, where I live with my ideal fat bank balance – would be all-white…. top-to-toe. And maybe I'd only eat all-white food. www.thegeorge.com Saturday, May 31, 2008
Happy Birthday George!
When you turn 21 you HAVE to have a birthday cake.
Even if you're a hotel.
And so we celebrated 21 years of The George's fine service to hospitality.

Happy Birthday!
George Bear - from The George. 2008The George – that sublime, award-winning boutique hotel on Christchurch’s Park Terrace is about to celebrate. They turn 21 in May and they’re celebrating by offering local diners the chance to try ‘a key in the lock.’ Be the lucky diner on any night between Sunday and Thursday during May and you can unlock a bedroom suite for a night’s stay with breakfast for two the next morning – and believe me it’s worth it. You get to choose when you stay. This all culminates in a 21st birthday party for all 21 winners and invited guests later in the month. And of course the impossibly cute George Bear will be overseeing proceedings. www.thegeorge.com
