Art in a White Box

Victoria Street, Christchurch. July 2008. Ajr
I may not always like the art that is exhibited in this Christchurch gallery but I do like the white architectural form it sits within. Designed by the Christchurch architectural practice, Sheppard & Rout, the gallery is striking in its simplicity. And you have to hand it to the Fisher family, they’ve been around for a while now – six generations of the family have kept the gallery going since it was first established in 1870. That may well be some kind of New Zealand record in the gallery longevity stakes.
