This is one of the iconic Docklands artworks commissioned by Melbourne Docklands Urban Art Program. It's "Cow Up a Tree," by John Kelly - five tonnes of painted bronze standing 8 metres high. As absurd as it seems - surreal even - the work is actually based on fact. Australian floods are often violent and cows have been known to be swept into trees. They're sometimes stranded there when the flood waters recede - hence Kelly placing the work in close relationship to water.
