An Australian Country House

Campaspe House, Woodend, Victoria, Australia. Nov.2008. Ajr
Here I am at the very lovely Campaspe House in Woodend, an hour north of Melbourne. This gorgeous country house is tucked away on a private estate down an unassuming dirt road lined with ubiquitous Australian eucalypts. You see nothing from the road – which is just how the rich and indulgent like it of course – but once you’re through the gates and pulling up outside the front door, the fun begins – the exceptional food, the divine swimming pool, the stunning gardens and that’s before you even entertain the thought of staying the night with every comfort laid on. The house itself was built in 1927 and continued to be a family home (for three families) until the 1980s. It was converted to classy accommodation (with two new guest wings added) in 1988 and today it plays host to monied Melbournians looking to escape the rat race of the city. www.campaspehouse.com.au
